We here at Puzzlehead understand how fortunate we are that we can enjoy warm tropical weather year round. But if you’re snowbound and suffering from cabin fever, here’s something at which to throw your collective brains.
That Fedora Guy has put together an interesting geocaching.com bookmark list called The Unfoundlings. On it are caches all around the world that have never been found after having been published for at least six months. As of October 2009, there were 53 unfoundlings, and it should come as no surprise a good number of them are mystery caches. A few of them are just challenges, such as the 100 Letterbox Challenge or the South Dakota County Challenge. But most of them are just really tough puzzles, such as:

PS: My favorite unfoundling is not a puzzle – it’s the single most remote cache in North America.

I’m a software engineer who lives in a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I’ve enjoyed solving puzzles for years, and a few years ago I began constructing puzzles of my own.

Puzzle Testing
I believe that the best way to make a puzzle even better is to ask someone else to solve it. You learn so much about how people think, how people approach your puzzle, pitfalls they may encounter, and outright errors in your construction by having someone else try it before you unleash it upon the world.
If you’re a puzzle constructor, I would be honored to test your puzzle for you. Send me email with your puzzle or a link to it, and I’ll try solving it, as long as I have time available to do so. I’m a busy guy, so my time is limited … but I’m always open to a challenge.

What Happened to ePeterso1?
ePeterso1 was a horrible experiment gone wrong that had to be hunted down and killed before he claimed the lives of any more innocent victims. Most of the bugs that caused ePeterso1 to go haywire have been corectted in ePeterso2.

Snowbound? Not in the great white north. Winter’s the best time for caching: GPS reception is fantastic with no leaves on the trees, no muggles, and if the cache has been recently found you don’t even need a GPS…….just follow the tracks. One more good thing about winter caching: Puzzle caches can be found without solving for coordinates.
